Ever since this website was born in late 2002, Rob & Nicole have shown little snippets of their lives and adventures. But what happened before this? Where did these two rascals come from? This is a special section dedicated to exposing the truth....

Every kid has a "Fugly Phase", and this was clearly Robby's. After Mimi and Bob separated in the fall of 1982, she moved up to Oregon to work at the Delpian School. Robby went with her. This photo was taken in the spring of 1983.

That same year, Bob meets Carol Montgomery, and before you know it they elope to Reno Nevada!

Then they have a more formal wedding with friends and family at the house in Los Altos in 1984.

The year is 1985, and Robby is thinking hard about:  a) robots   b) monsters  or   c) spaceships.

Here's Robby in 1986, when Miami Vice inspired every kid to peg their pants, gel their hair, and run around with plastic sub-machine guns as a fashion accessory.

Robby tries extremely hard to stand in a masculine fashion, but it just feels so much better to stand like a girl. Los Angeles, 1987 (age 15).

10th grade was a transitional period as you can see here. Not only was he wearing cooler clothes like polka-dot ties and silver-coordinated sweaters, his hair was defying gravity with the help of a quarter can of aqua net applied each morning, (re-applied throughout the day). You score an extra 10 point if you noticed the little mullet hanging off the back.

Robby spent a lot of his free time drawing. He eventually adopted this desk in the school's art room as his own, and could be found late at night, sitting there, drawing... stuff. Age 17.

- 1989, changes name to "Rob".

Robby changed his name to "Rob" after one of his teachers referred to him as "Rob" for his entire sophomore year of high school. Friends who new him before this time would always call him Robby, as would family. He likes this.

Rob and one of his best friends, Grant Beaugard inspect the girls dorms to make sure things are safe up there, that nothing out of the ordinary is going on behind any of the large windows.

Rob's 72 square foot dorm room that he lived in for his last 2 and a half years of boarding school.

Rob delivers his graduation speech to a crowd of about 1000. This is, for the record, 990 more people than he would have preferred.

Since there were no cars allowed in boarding school, Rob is issued his very first driver's license at the age of 19...

-1991, graduates high school and heads off to the Marine Corps.

Pvt. Adams graduated Marine boot camp on April 17th 1992. In this photo he's being recognized by Major General Stubbs for being the "Platoon Iron Man". Mimi and Bob are also named as his proud parents. Age 20.

Here's PFC Adams doing his Marine combat training at Camp Pendelton, CA, 1992. Marines from this base are sent to keep the peace during the LA riots a few days after this photo is taken.

More combat training in Camp Pendleton, fall of 1992. Rob is in the back row, 3rd from the left.

Rob is re-stationed to Camp Legeune, NC for ops specialty training. He's flown around in helicopters, many, many times.

-1993, Rob gets hired at his first game company job.

After interning for 6 months, Rob is hired full-time at Atari Games Corp at the age of 22. He's the youngest employee out of 300. This is his big break into the video games business, and the beginning of a career that would last over 15 years... and counting.

-1994, Lance Corporal Adams (now a reservist) is honorably discharged from the Marine Corps. (Phew!)

Rob & his cousins on Bob's side of the family (from left to right) Jenny, Chris, Lynette, and Glen. This photo was taken at Bob's brother Jack's 50th birthday party.

In late 1994, Rob begins growing out his hair...   oh the hair... Also of note, Atari changes it's name to the much more interesting-sounding, "Time Warner Interactive".

-1995, Rob's mother Mimi gets re-married to Dirk Raaphorst

Mimi weds sailing buddy and sweetheart Dirk Raaphorst among family and friends aboard a beautiful catamaran at sea, in the summer of 1995. Here they are cutting the cake.

Age: 24.

Haley and Paisley hadn't seen Rob in about 5 years. Also of note, Rob's hair.

-1996, Rob's mom sells her house and sets sail with Dirk, to live aboard their new boat.

Mimi and Dirk buy "Destiny", a gorgeous 40' sailing yacht and set sail for San Diego. They live aboard for the next couple of years, staying in Coronado, Ventura, and eventually settling in Moss Landing near Monterey, CA

Age: 25

Rob manages a couple of indoor soccer teams, and his hair continues to grow...

Here's Rob and Bob, on the summit of Alpine Meadows ski resort near Lake Tahoe, in the winter of 1997. Notice Rob's hair again. He would cut it one year later. To this day he sometimes dreams about having it back, and finds it annoying.

-1998, at age 26, Rob leaves the US on September 11th to live in Vancouver, BC and work for Electronic Arts.

Just before cutting his golden locks, Rob poses for this warm and friendly photo at the Canadian DMV in November 1998.

Having been into the renewed swing craze for about a year, Rob and his dance partner Rebecca throw it down in front of the crowd at the EA awards gala. Little did he know that his obsessive evenings out dancing would lead him to a young girl by the name of Nicole.

-February 1999, Age: 27, Rob meets Nicole for the first time at a couple's dance in Vancouver.

At the tender (and scandalous) age of 17, Nicole perfects the gaze that would eventually ensnare the unsuspecting, innocent Rob on the dance floor.

Soon after becoming dance partners, Rob and Nicole taped some video of themselves so they could critique their style and get better. It was the only video of them swing dancing they ever made, and here's a little sample...

File size: 39 mb (worth it!) -broadband and headphones recommended.

By the Summer of 1999, they were starting to get pretty cozy with each other... and thinking of moving in together.

- February 2000, after a year-long relationship, Nicole moves into Rob's downtown apartment.

A rare photo of Rob's apartment on Scotia street in Vancouver.

- June 2000, Rob accepts a position at Naughty Dog Inc. in Santa Monica, CA. He asks Nicole to move with him. After several days, she agrees. Rob proposes to her 4 days later. Luckily for him, she agrees to this too!

Age: 28, Rob begins working at Naughty Dog in Santa Monica. Little did he know he'd still be working there 7 years later...

After some serious drama with the border officials, Nicole is able to get into the U.S. and rendezvous with Rob down in Santa Cruz, CA. Dirk took this photo a day after they were re-united safely.

Rob gets his new California License in August of 2000.

- January 12th, 2001, Rob and Nicole are married in Los Angeles.

January 12, 2001. Rob and Nicole are legally married in the L.A. County Courthouse.

Immediately following their wedding, they skip across to Catalina Island to celebrate for a few days.

-March 2002, Rob and Nicole buy their first house in the Hollywood Hills.

July 2002, Rob and Nicole have their "formal" wedding in Canada at Nicole's home. (click here the the special wedding section)

August 2002, Rob and Nicole spend 21 days honeymooning in French Polynesia. (click here for the special honeymoon section)

- October 2002, with so many pictures from the wedding and honeymoon, they decide to keep a blog of all their adventures, news, and projects. They register "robandnicole.com" so family and friends can check in once in a while to see what they're up to...

3rd grade!

Not sure what to say here, there's just nothing controversial about this child.

"'...Cause we are li-ving in a material world, and I am a Material Girl!"

Nicole vigorously strums her Lego "guitar" on backup. (Skills she would one day use to beat Rob at Guitar Hero)

6th Grade. This is the closest Nicole would ever come to a "Fugly Phase". Actually she has a fuglier photo but it seems to have vanished very recently while I was scanning. Oh well. Check out Robby's Fugly Phase photo on the top of the left side.

8th grade, and shedding any signs of fugliness.

-February 1999, Nicole meets Rob at the Legion Dance Hall in Vancouver in January of 1999

This was taken just before heading to the UBC dance competitions, where she would win first place in Swing and (info needed)

Nicole already had a swing partner for the competition, but Jacqueline needed one, so Rob stepped up. They took second place, with Nicole and her partner Chris coming in first! Their mother was so overcome with joy she became hysterical and had to be carried from the building by security. Actually I made the last part up but we did steal the competition.

This was one of their first photos together, taken in March 1999

This ends Nicole's section, but you can scroll down to see more pics of her life after meeting Rob, further down on the left side...
