Two days of wreck diving off the San Diego coastline was how we celebrated our friend, Brian's 29th birthday. Actually, there was a lot more celebrating in Tijuana, but the wreck dives were the main reason for going. Tijuana was pretty interesting. Very energized, exciting, and a little scary. -Rob & Nicole |
Click to download the "Wreck Diving the Ruby E." video. (7 mb) Nicole relaxes while everyone else goes bonkers with their dive gear. (see below) Everyone else going bonkers with their dive gear. This was the most packed dive boat we've been on. Brian tries not to bump anybody. After a few minutes, people just gave up apologizing for the constant bumpings, and bumped seemingly at will. A poor quality still shot (from my video camera) of the Ruby E. pilot house interior. Depth 75 feet. Brian, watching me perform a safety decompression stop at 20 feet.

Nicole crosses the border into Mexico -a teeny bit apprehensively. We naively jumped into a cab, and were asked immediately if we'd like to either go to "the titty bars", or a "donkey show". Unfortunately, we had to pass on both since we were following another cab full of dive pals. We arrive in what can only be described as "CrazyWorld". Instant sensory overload...tolerable only after three or more drinks. Then it actually gets really fun, and CrazyWorld seems just right. Our table at the El Torito dance-club/bar/restaurant/bull-rides/etc. Somehow we bought a bucket of beer (10 Coronas), and drank them in 30 minutes. Our tacos were really good, too. Everyone, including the whistle-blowing tequila demon in the blue shirt, seemed to know it was Brian's birthday. Our long swagger back to the U.S. customs line... |
