This trip was very good for us -and badly needed after pulling 70+ hour weeks for almost 15 months. Our first stop was Lahaina Town on the west coast of Maui. Once a bustling whaling port in the 1800's, it's now home to scores of art galleries and shops. We spent a lot of time checking out original paintings and drawings from the likes of the John Lennon, Picasso, Wyland, and many more. There's also a large rock museum with signed guitars from just about hall-of-famer. Our hotel was perfectly located just a block from the center of town, so it was easy to walk everywhere. The pool is simply sublime. It's heated to about 85 degrees, and has a 12-foot deep end. We spent a lot of time, too much time, in and around this pool. A banyan tree was brought from India in the late 1800's and planted in the city center. It's now one of the largest in the world and acts as a living tent for art festivals. We took a drive along the famed Hana Highway, a lush, widning road along the north shore. Finally we reached our destination, Hamoa Beach on the far eastern shore of the island. The sand is a beautiful fine lava that traps air bubbles and makes your feet sink in really deep when you walk.
